In Flux is a spatially conceived work for mixed ensemble and multichannel electronics that examines time as a fluid, perceptual phenomenon rather than a fixed, linear construct. Drawing on 20th- and 21st-century philosophical and scientific thought, the piece unfolds through multiple temporal layers that diverge, overlap, and realign, creating a shifting field in which memory, anticipation, and present perception coexist.

Temporal relationships are articulated through space: the distribution and movement of sound generate conditions in which simultaneity and displacement are perceived differently depending on the listener’s position. Through the spatial positioning and coordinated movement of performers alongside eight-channel diffusion, materials that are structurally aligned may be heard as separated, while distant events may collapse into perceived coincidence. A central trio (violin, cello, piano) is encircled by the audience, while double bass and two percussionists—each moving between multiple stations—operate along the periphery, blurring boundaries between interior and exterior sonic spaces. Musical materials evolve as continuous processes, shaping a form that emerges through accumulation, interference, and perceptual transformation. In this environment, time is not measured but experienced—unstable, contingent, and in constant flux.
